Effect of helical angle of helical gears on the slewing drive transmission performance
Publish time:2025/01/09 News Views:100
In the process of designing gear slewing drives, U-TRSM often encounters the design of helical gears. In the design of helical gears, the helix angle has a very significant impact on the transmission performance of slewing drives. Specifically, there are several main aspects:
1. The teeth of helical gears have a helical shape, and the contact between the teeth is not a simple rolling contact, but takes place in a sliding manner, the size of the helix angle directly affects the length of the contact line and the shape of the contact area, which in turn affects the contact stress distribution on the tooth surface, in general, the larger the helix angle, the longer the contact line, the more uniform the contact stress distribution, and the tooth contact life will be increased accordingly, thus improving the overall life of the slewing drive.
2. The size of the helix angle also affects the transmission efficiency. In general, the larger the helix angle, the higher the transmission efficiency of the slewing drive. However, when the helix angle is too large, it will cause the rolling direction of the tooth surface and the tangential direction to coincide, thus increasing the shear stress between the tooth surfaces, which in turn reduces the transmission efficiency of the slewing drive. Therefore, when selecting the helix angle, it needs to be based on the specific transmission requirements and working conditions.
3. Helical gears in the transmission process, due to the tooth surface contact and impact will produce noise, the helix angle increases will make the contact line longer, the tooth surface contact situation is smoother, thus reducing the noise.
4. The increase of helix angle will also make the increase of the degree of overlap, that is, the number of meshed teeth increases, not only improves the contact strength and bending strength of the gears in the slewing drive, but also contributes to the transmission of smooth and prolong the life of the gears.
5. Although an increased helix angle brings many advantages, it also increases axial forces, which are detrimental to the load capacity of the shaft and bearings.
In the design process of U-TRSM design engineers, the impact of helical gears on transmission is multi-faceted and requires constant communication with the customer to select the appropriate helix angle according to the specific working conditions and transmission requirements.
