The spur gear slewing drive is composed of slewing bearings, pinions, housings, adapter flanges, support bearings, seals and other components. Next Unique Transmission will introduce each component in turn.
The slewing bearing generally adopts the four point contact ball slewing ring, which can bear axial load, radial load and tilting moment at the same time, also can bear high speed. If the customers’ working conditions are special, such as large tilting moment , high impact, high vibration, use crossed roller slewing bearings or three row cylindrical roller slewing bearings according to the specific situation.
For the slewing bearing materials, we select 42CrMo forgings, which have passed tempering (Q+T) treatment, the tempering hardness is 229-269HB. After tempering, the mechanical properties are greatly improved and the capacity of the slewing bearings are also improved.
The slewing bearings raceway carry out induction hardening, quenching hardness 55±5HRC. The raceway surface is hard and the core is soft. The raceway has the characteristics of strong load capacity, strong wear resistance, good toughness and excellent impact resistance.
The slewing ring teeth are also induction hardened with a quenching hardness of 50±5HRC. After quenching, the teeth also have the characteristics of hard surface, soft core, strong load capacity, strong wear resistance, good toughness, and excellent impact resistance.
The geometric accuracy, slewing accuracy and clearance of the slewing ring are determined according to the specific requirements of the customer. If the customers need spur gear slewing drives with ordinary accuracy, it’s necessary to design the slewing rings with ordinary accuracy, design and produce it in accordance with the national standard P0 level. If the customers need precision spur gear slewing drives, it’s necessary to design precision slewing bearings in accordance with national standard P5 level design and production. If customers need ultra high precision spur gear slewing drives or spur gear slewing drives with special requirements, it’s necessary to design slewing bearing with ultra high precision according to customer requirements and at the same time can meet the special requirements of the customers, such as zero clearance, negative clearance, strict end runout requirements, tooth runout requirements ≤0.05mm, need to develop a special process technology to meet customers requirements.
2、The Pinion of slewing drive

The teeth of the pinions carry out induction hardening, quenching hardness 50±5HRC. After quenching, the teeth also have the characteristics of hard surface, soft core, strong load capacity, strong wear resistance, good toughness and excellent impact resistance.
The shaft holes of the pinions are used in conjunction with the customers’ reducer shafts or motor shafts to transmit kinetic energy. The matching tolerance of the shaft hole and customers’ shafts are very important, generally adopt snap fit, shaft holes of the pinions are finally ground processes to ensure the matching size. The gear shaft holes are designed according to the output shaft drawing of the reducer or motor selected by the customers. The customers can directly install the reducer or motor shaft into the gear shaft hole when assembling the equipment, which is very convenient and reliable.
The gears are designed to be supported by ball or roller bearings at both ends, which do not rely on the support of the reducer shaft or the motor shaft, can rotate independently. The support design of both ends can make the gears to withstand very high radial force, when used under large impact load or large inertia conditions, has high reliability, compared with gears that rely on the reducer shaft or motor shaft to supporting rotation, it can effectively reduce the damage of the reducer shaft or motor shaft, reduce the failure rate, improve the equipment reliability and reduce the maintenance cost.
3、The Housing of slewing drive
The housing material we choose is nodular cast iron QT450-10, made by casting, the carbon of QT450-10 is in the form of spherical graphite.

Normalizing treatment is carried out after casting, plasticity and toughness are improved, comprehensive mechanical properties can be improved too. It has excellent castability, small processing deformation, high strength, wear resistance, stability and durability.
The designer should continuously optimize the housing casting drawings to avoid unnecessary casting deformation. According to the actual situation in the machining process, appropriately adjust the shape and machining allowance of the casting, during the machining process, it must be processed in strict accordance with the processing steps required by technology. The processing steps are not to be reversed, processing parameters are not to be changed privately, the key matching sizes are well controlled, only in this way can a qualified housing be processed with high efficiency and high quality.
The adapter flange is a key component connecting the top and bottom. Half of the function of the adapter flange is to fix the gear to the housing to ensure that the gear can rotate independently and stably.The other half of the function is as the input end of the gear type slewing drive, which is responsible for connecting the customers reducer or the output flange of the motor.According to the functional characteristics of the adapter flange, it’s better to customize the adapter flange to customers. The adapter flange is designed according to the output end size of the reducer or motor selected by customers, at the same time take into account the function of fixed gear, special situations are often encountered in the design process, such as flange interference connection holes, flanges are too large, flange bolts are difficult to arrange, etc. This requires designers to have rich experience and solve actual problems based on actual conditions.
The support bearings of the spur gear slewing drive are ball or roller bearings that support the gear rotation. The selection of the roller or ball bearings is based on the specific operating conditions, the characteristics of various bearings and the performance parameters such as load and speed. Commonly used bearing types are: angular contact ball bearings, tapered roller bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, deep groove ball bearings and so on.
6、The seal of slewing drive
The seals of the gear type slewing drive usually adopt NBR oil resistant butadiene rubber seals, the raceway of the slewing ring is sealed, the slewing rings and housings are also sealed, which can ensure that the lubricating parts of the gear type slewing drive are dustproof and waterproof. It can effectively reduce the maintenance frequency of the gear type slewing drive and reduce failure rate.
