The worm profile of toroidal worm drive is a rotary surface formed by rotating a concave arc around the worm curve, so it is called toroidal rotary surface worm, or toroidal worm for short.
The type of toroidal worm drive depends on the generatrix or main body that forms the helical tooth surface. The plane enveloping worm is relatively easy to achieve accurate machining and hardening grinding that fully conforms to its meshing principle, especially for the worm gear of the plane once enveloping worm drive, no hob is needed, so the process is more simple.
